MMT Minute Thoughts on SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME

I’m officially on vacation from my 9 to 5 but I had to share my thoughts really quick on the latest Marvel film SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME! I screened it Tuesday night and I had one of the most enjoyable times in a long while at the theater.

Full of easter eggs and fun nostalgia, the latest Spider-Man definitely hails as one of the finest films in the MCU, but I can’t lay claim that it’s “the best” as many critics and fans have been praising on social media – that title hands down for me belongs to “Avengers: Endgame.”

But this latest Spidey – with its inclusion of villains past like Green Goblin and Doc Ock and the two past Spideys Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield – was pitch perfect in emotion, comedy, fantasy, and boy were the action scenes wild!

Now be careful, because the next paragraph has a spoiler if you haven’t been paying attention to news articles or social media. Ready? Okay, here goes!

A highlight for me was – even though Marvel tried the okey doke, that’s not true move – seeing Matt Murdock, portrayed by my boy Charlie Cox!!!!! Daredevil has entered the MCU ladies and gentleman! And if you’re a Hawkeye viewer, and saw Wednesday’s episode, you know another Netflix “Daredevil” casted character showed up!

What a great week for us lovers of those Netflix series – “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “The Punisher,” and “Iron Fist.” I was meh on the latter, but wouldn’t mind seeing Mike Colter show up as Cage, Jon Bernthal as Punisher and Krysten Ritter as that badass Jessica.

But back to the matter at hand – Spider-Man!! I mean, hands down, Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spidey made me a believer again – after the two Garfield films and truly missing Maguire. But this latest film tied all three actors, with all their uniqueness, together and joined their respective story arcs/backstories seamlessly as only Marvel could.

There are quite a few things I want to comment on, but they all involve spoilers to some extent so I will behave!

Suffice it to say, the film is such a fun and heartwarming trip, I can’t wait to view again – prayerfully in an almost empty theater which I highly doubt I’ll find anytime during the holiday or winter break!

My only critique, honestly, is that I thought it lulled a bit in the second act, but the third act is so satisfying, and the banter and comedy throughout the second so amusing, that it really didn’t matter much in the end.

I rate the film 4 out of 5 on the MMTrometer.

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME opened in theaters December 16.

Until next thought – which will be after December 26 😉 – Thomasena
