Good Evening MMT Fam! Here’s a quick look at the upcoming film THE PERFECT MATCH starring Terrence J, singer/actress Cassie Ventura, and Paula Patton.  It is executive produced by Queen Latifah (Bessie, Brotherly Love), who also produced and starred in one of my favorite romantic comedies, Just Wright – which was beautifully cast, shot and also included one of this film’s stars Ms. Paula Patton.

Check out the trailer and synopsis below, and get additional info about the movie at Codeblack Entertainment’s Facebook page.  Ooh, and for the Philly area fam, I have it on good authority that we can expect advanced screening passes for this one – so keep an eye out and stay active!

THE PERFECT MATCH opens in theaters nationwide on March 11.

Until next thought, Thomasena

Synopsis: Charlie (Terrence J) is a bachelor who’s convinced that relationships are dead even though his sister (Paula Patton), a therapist, tries to tell him otherwise. His best friends bet him that if he sticks to one woman for one month, he’s bound to fall in love. An unconvinced Charlie takes the bet because he believes that he’s immune to love… until he crosses paths with the beautiful and mysterious Eva (Cassie Ventura). Charlie is sure that he will win the bet and prove his friends and sister wrong, so he rises to the occasion and takes on the challenge. Turning on his irresistible charm, Charlie coaxes Eva into a casual affair, but soon finds out that Eva has turned the tables on him. Unsure of what to think or how to feel, he finds himself trying to navigate in a foreign territory. Now, Charlie is left questioning whether he may actually want more than just a one-night stand.

“Will Zoe Have An Ever After?” by Christopher D. Weaver

Zoe Ever After

One of my favorite singers who is also a great sitcom actress, Brandy Norwood, has made her return to mainstream television. Norwood has returned to BET as Zoe Moon, soon to be divorced mother of a young son and the ex of Gemini Moon, celebrity boxer and womanizer.  The first episode I was super excited because it’s Brandy and her television runs usually are amazing. She starred in “Thea”, “Moesha” and most recently “The Game”. She also completed a fantastic Broadway stint in “Chicago”, portraying the lead of Roxy Heart. Her acting isn’t the issue. The writing and premise of Zoe Ever After, however, is.  I may have at best chuckled at some of the dialogue. It’s formulaic, dry and predictable. Her supporting cast is helpful in deterring some of the painfully dull moments. Dorian Missick “Gemini,” her ex was casted I’m sure to be eye candy and does a darn good job of playing the caring dad to their son “Xavier” portrayed by Jaylon Gordon. He’s adorable, funny and uses his screen time to his advantage.

One of the major disappointments was to see yet another stereotype brought to life – “Valente” portrayed by Tory Devon Smith. Valente is Zoe’s flamboyant, gay assistant who can be mouthy and man hungry.  I said to myself this has been done before, UPN’s “Half & Half.” The character was Asian and just like Valente, comical, flamboyant and worked in an office setting.

My favorite character is Zoe’s best friend and business partner, “Pearl”, portrayed by Haneefah Wood. Her comedic timing is refreshing. She is fun to watch and is very comical. She is water to the fallow ground of the scripting of the show. Brandy as Zoe is beautiful, attractive, smart and a great mother. She embodies the spirit of Zoe, but something is missing. Could it be the writing, character development or plot?? Is the storyline redundant and is in need of revamping?? Yes to all of the above scenarios!!

After polling some of my friends about the state of the show, I’ve come to the conclusion that Zoe may not have an ever after. My fellow Brandy fan and dear friend, Q, suggested she should’ve came back as Moesha and resume the role but as an adult. I said, eh maybe!! My other friend, CJ suggested allow someone else to play the role and position Brandy to direct and produce. I consider both to be amazing ideas, but no cigar. The script is in dire need of revitalizing that would help the longevity of what is meant to be a comedic staple for Brandy and BET.

Next Thought on Music: Brandy “Begs and Pleads” (guest contributor Christopher D. Weaver )

Who would’ve ever thought that shy little girl who met Whitney Houston, played Cinderella, and sat on top of the world, would be beggin’& pleadin’?? Brandy has returned with her new hit single Beggin’ & Pleadin that is currently exclusively on Soundcloud. Ms. Norwood is known for her raspy, but confident vocal prowess. She didn’t fail to deliver on this track as well. Brandy channeled 60’s Aretha soul pop tinged with gospel overtones. It’s superb!! The lyrics are intertwined with the homage of yesteryear and the urban presence of today.  She boldly uses the “N” word as the background sashays in beehives and penny loafers all while letting her former paramour know he can go and take his last name with him. I’m not clear if this track is to accompany her new TV sitcom “Zoe Ever After”, but considering the context of the show and this single, it would be a perfect marketing marriage. I’m a die-hard Brandy fan. I wanted to be her “Best Friend”, I knew that a “Full Moon” wasn’t a bad thing and nobody could deny that an “Angel in Disguise” can exist. She doesn’t have to beg and plead me or any other true fan to love this single. I’m in, all the way in. Wave me back Bran, Wave me back!!  Please go visit the past while in the presence of Brandy’s new single “Beggin & Pleadin”. Trust me, it’s worth the trip.

Grammys and BET Honors, Oh My!

Grammy pic

Good Morning Music Movie Family!  So the 55th Annual Grammy Awards will air tonight 8pm EST on CBS, and to be honest I’m not overly excited.  But, there are a few moments I am looking forward to, including the Sting, Bruno Mars, and Rihanna performance.  Why you ask?  Well I don’t know about you but every time I hear “Locked Out of Heaven,” I’m wishing that “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic” follows!  Don’t necessarily know how Rihanna fits into the Grammy equation; but I guess we will all find out tonight won’t we?

I’m also looking forward to the Song of the Year category and would love to see Miguel win for “Adorn,” but am feeling the songwriting team behind that Kelly Clarkson hit “Stronger” or Carly Rae Jepsen, songwriter of that bubble gum hit “Call Me Maybe” heard EVERYWHERE, might walk away with the award. You can check out the rest of the Grammy nomination list at

What I’m most excited about is one of my all time favorite singers, the legendary Chaka Khan who celebrates 40 years in the music industry this year, receive her tribute on tomorrow’s BET Honors. The broadcast will air Monday night at 9pm EST on BET.  Now there are several artists who performed and paid tribute to the honorees, including Brandy, Mint Condition, Alicia Keys, and the SOS Band featuring Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.  But my girls Erykah Badu and Ledisi were also in the house, and I’m willing to bet they sang the heaven into a Chaka song!  Can’t wait to see, how about you?  Also included this year as BET Honorees are Halle Berry, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Lisa Leslie, and music industry legend Clarence Avant (if you don’t know his name, look him up!).

Alright that’s it for me Music Movie Lovers.  Stop back by and let me know what you liked, or didn’t, about the shows.  Going to leave you with some of that Bruno Mars below 🙂
