Well, MMT Fam, this is a bittersweet moment. While I am excited to post this giveaway, I am equally – or maybe a bit more – saddened that it will be the last one under the musicmoviesthoughts.com banner. But oh, what a good one it is!
As promised back in May, I hosted a great get-together last week for several lucky subscribers/supporters and MMT crew, who got an early screening of THE COLOR PURPLE. Here are just a few of their thoughts on the film:
- “I enjoyed re-visiting this delicate movie, that I saw as a child, with my adult eyes. Seeing this new tone led by the phenomenal and ultra talented Fantasia Barrino was riveting theater on film.” Samantha Hollins
- “The movie musical adaptation of The Color Purple was outstanding! Casting was expertly done and the singing and choreography were lively and soul stirring.” Vanessa Gaskin
- “The acting, casting, music and cinematography were on point! It kept the African-American tradition of art alive.” Ronin Ali Hollins
- “Danielle Brooks really did it for me. She was funny, strong and brought me to tears.” Monae Singletary
I’m still debating if I will share a final review, the balance is tipping greatly towards sharing, but I will gladly say right now that the film is an entertaining and engaging holiday experience for most of the family – albeit PG-13, so be mindful and find something else for those little ones.
That being said, here’s your chance to get Fandango passes and film related swag to see it at your leisure when it’s released on Christmas. All entrants must have been active (yes, I know the difference) subscribers of musicmoviesthoughts.com and send an email from your subscribed address to contests@musicmoviesthoughts.com with your full name and mailing address in the body and the subject line A NEW COLOR PURPLE.
Winners will be selected and notified by December 17.
THE COLOR PURPLE opens in theaters everywhere on Christmas Day.
Good luck. Thomasena
Based on the novel and the Tony-winning Broadway stage show, “The Color Purple” is a reimagined cinematic experience from powerhouse producers Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones and directed by Blitz Bazawule (Bah-zah-woo-lay). Making her major motion picture debut, Fantasia Barrino is Celie who, despite facing many hardships in her life, finds extraordinary strength and hope in the bonds of sisterhood. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halley Bailey, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and released in theaters on December 25th by Warner Bros. Pictures.

I can not wait to see the New Color Purple! Happy Holidays to you! Thank you for all your hard work and joy you brought to others !
