AAFCA Roundtable with Issa Rae, Prentice Penny, Shiona Turini, Kier Lehman and Felicia Leatherwood of INSECURE

Well, the moment loyal fans have been awaiting is arriving tomorrow, October 24 – the season premiere of the fifth and final season of INSECURE on HBO.

Here’s the official synopsis: starring NAACP Image Award winner and six-time Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award nominee Issa Rae, the series continues to follow our favorite characters as they evaluate their relationships, both new and old, in an effort to figure out who and what comes with them in this next phase of their lives. The fifth season also stars series regulars Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales, Kendrick Sampson and Courtney Taylor. INSECURE was created by Issa Rae & Larry Wilmore; executive produced by Issa Rae, Prentice Penny, Melina Matsoukas, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry, Amy Aniobi and Jim Kleverweis.

For four seasons, fans have followed the ups and downs, gains and losses, celebrations and sorrows, and every type of relationship held by characters Issa Dee, Molly, Lawrence, Kelli, Tiffany, and all of the players in the award-winning series.

I had the opportunity to watch the first four episodes and, though I can’t say much, can share that in this fifth season the entire crew is back and some relationships are mended, while some are ended, and journeys are realized along with a lot of self-reflection and growth. I just pray that all of the latter continues on past episode four!

As a dedicated fan of seasons past, I was also ecstatic to join the AAFCA family for a virtual roundtable with “Insecure” star and creator Issa Rae, showrunner/producer Prentice Penny, costume designer Shiona Turini, hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood, and music supervisor Kier Lehman – who discussed everything from the show’s lasting impact to its popularity and contributions to the culture.

Click play one time below and tune in for the first episode of INSECURE season five this Sunday, October 24 at 10 pm EST on HBO.
