Hey MMT Fam! Y’all know I was hype for the HALLOWEEN reboot last October – and even went as far as to purchase a train ticket and travel to Harrisburg to see it for the first time with my younger sister! But I wasn’t the only one in a nostalgic mode, because the theater was filled with folk who had streaks of gray or salt and pepper like myself. 😛
As far as nostalgia goes, the film definitely did not disappoint – giving the audience the original “Shape” Nick Castle and cool Easter eggs throughout. Speaking of those eggs, did you find any? How about the tune Laurie Strode hummed in the original film…hint, hint?
And though I feel there’s a bit more camp than I would have liked in the new film, especially since the 1978 original is such a creepy classic, the portrayal of a woman (Laurie Strode) living with PTSD after dealing with such horrific trauma was nailed by Jamie Lee Curtis. Also, there are some great suspense scenes – including the #GirlPower displayed by Strode, and her daughter and granddaughter played by Judy Greer and Andi Matichak respectively, in the kick ass finale. (Check out a snippet below of Curtis and Matichak’s characters having a major moment in the film).
All in all, this reboot is a must for fans of horror and enjoyable enough for lovers of scary movies new and old. I’d rate it a 3 out of 5 on the MMTrometer.
HALLOWEEN is available now on Digital and will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD on January 15, 2019.
