I have to be honest, I made no plans – and actually had declared that I wouldn’t pay – to see NOBODY’S FOOL in theaters. I love the entire cast (I mean c’mon the hilarious Tiffany Haddish, Tika Sumpter, Amber Riley, Omari Hardwick and EGOT winner and comedic genius Whoopi Goldberg) so of course was tempted and eventually relinquished to my curiosity – and the fact that the film wasn’t on the Philly press calendar – and paid to see it Thursday night.
Now before you get all sanctimonious and say I am throwing shade at Mr. Tyler Perry for not wanting to pay to view in the theater, it isn’t that and you clearly haven’t read some of my previous posts. I am a fan of a lot of Mr. Perry’s work, just not many of his films in recent years (Diary of a Mad Black Woman and The Family That Preys remain faves).
But in regards to Nobody’s Fool, I was soooo wrong! It. Was. HILARIOUS! That Tiffany Haddish is something to be reckoned with, and I am really tired of those folk who say otherwise. You ever laugh so hard at a scene in a film that you have to strain to stop so other people in the theater can hear? Well that was me and it just might be you when you peep a crazy one with a surprise celebrity cameo that will have you in stitches.
And Tika Sumpter was not only a great straight woman to Tiffany’s all nonsense, crazy, funny of a mess, but had really good chemistry with the always charming Omari Hardwick – and it was refreshing to see his comedic side.
Perry penned and directed a really solid rom-com with a fun twist mid-way that culminates in a pretty expected yet extremely satisfying ending. It was worth every penny, and I’m pretty sure I’m going with girlfriends to see it again sometime soon! Rating this 3 1/2 out of 5 beats on the MMTrometer.
Nobody’s Fool opened in theaters everywhere Friday, November 2.
Until next thought, Thomasena
