ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL synopsis
Greg Gaines (Thomas Mann) is an awkward high school student determined to coast through his senior year as anonymously as possible. Avoiding social interactions like the plague, Greg spends most of his time remaking wacky versions of classic movies with his only friend, Earl. Greg’s well-meaning mother (played by Connie Britton) intervenes, forcing him to befriend Rachel (Olivia Cooke), a classmate who’s been diagnosed with leukemia. Greg and Rachel are surprised—even shocked—to find out that they actually like each other. The unlikely duo becomes inseparable, but their bond is threatened by Rachel’s worsening condition. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is a poignant, and often comic, coming-of-age tale made in a fresh and inventive filmmaking style.
