GIVEAWAY: advanced screening of TABLE 19 (Philly, PA)

Table 19

Happy Saturday MMT Fam! How many of you have attended a wedding and felt you were awkwardly seated at the reception? How many of you have been kicked out of a wedding party, but still attended the nuptials? If you can relate to either of those scenarios, or just enjoy comedic wedding stories, then TABLE 19 is right up your alley!

In the film, Ex-maid of honor Eloise (Anna Kendrick) – having been relieved of her duties after being unceremoniously dumped by the best man via text – decides to hold her head up high and attend her oldest friend’s wedding anyway.  She finds herself seated at the ‘random’ table in the back of the ballroom with a disparate group of strangers, most of whom should have known to just send regrets (but not before sending something nice off the registry).  As everyone’s secrets are revealed, Eloise learns a thing or two from the denizens of Table 19: friendships, and even a little romance, can happen under the most unlikely circumstances.

Click here to try your luck at an admit-two pass for the Philly screening on Tuesday, February 28 (Center City). Passes, like theater seating, are not guaranteed and are on a first come, first served basis.

You can watch the trailer below and get additional information at the official website here. TABLE 19 opens in theaters nationwide on March 3.

Good Luck!

MMT Quick Review of TROLLS with junior contributor Jayla

You know the old troll stories, which typically featured an unattractive critter/being who didn’t want to be disturbed or was intent on gobbling someone up? TROLLS is not that – well, at least they’re not the ones doing the gobbling! In this version of the troll lore, they are a happy race of creatures who spread joy wherever they’re found – except in the land of the Bergens, who believe they can only find happiness by “eating” trolls.

Sounds pretty morbid, I know, but it really is a cute and well-told story with wonderful lessons for children – including tolerance, kindness, and happiness. And with a soundtrack (produced by Justin Timberlake) that features old and new songs to further the narrative, the movie is attractive to, and fun for, both kids and adults alike. This moment in the film – featuring Anna Kendrick as Princess Poppy and Timberlake as the oddly, moody troll Branch – almost took me out with laughter…

“Trolls” also features the voices of the very funny (even as a troll) James Corden as Biggie, Russell Brand as Creek, Gwen Stefani as DJ Suki,  Kunal Nayyar as Guy Diamond, and comedian Ron Funches as the extremely funny Cooper. And Christine Baranski and Zooey Deschanel are hilarious as the Bergen characters Chef and Bridget respectively.

img951955So, what did MMT junior contributor Jayla think of the movie? Her exact wording was, “Sena, I liked ALL of it!” In typical Jayla fashion (remember she’s four), she laughed appropriately, and was quiet and watched the film intently during tense scenes (remember our story from Kung Fu Panda 3). But when all conflict was resolved, she happily (pun intended) celebrated the ending by dancing during the credits! And her mother shared that she has requested, and watched, “Trolls” videos on You Tube all week since the screening.

Overall, TROLLS is a great pick for the family, with solid lessons and a tight soundtrack. The movie is rated PG for some rude humor, so take into consideration when choosing for the itty-bitty ones. But I didn’t find it too inappropriate in any manner. To me, the trolls themselves are a modern-day, more soulful, version of “The Smurfs,” and the Bergens are Gargamel times a village!

I would recommend this for all ages and I certainly am looking forward to owning a copy when it is released on digital/DVD. Let me know what you think after you see the film!

Until next thought, Thomasena

Jayla is MMT’s junior contributor, and Thomasena’s self-described “littlest Gemini bestie.” Her favorite colors are purple and pink, and she enjoys Minnie Mouse and Snoopy. You can check out her opinions on The Secret Life of Pets and Kung Fu Panda 3 right here on MMT.

GIVEAWAY: advanced screening of TROLLS on Saturday, October 22 (Philly, PA)

Hey MMT Fam, we have a great contest for the family today! We’re giving away 10 family packs (4 passes) for the upcoming film TROLLS, screening this Saturday, October 22.

From the creators of “Shrek” comes DreamWorks Animation’s “Trolls,” a smart, funny, and irreverent comedy about the search for happiness, and just how far some will go to get it. This hilarious film transports audiences to a colorful, wondrous world populated by the overly optimistic Trolls, with a constant dance in their step and a song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have trolls in their stomachs.

After the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy (Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born, and the overly cautious curmudgeonly Branch (Timberlake) set off on a journey to rescue her friends. Together, this mismatched duo embark on a rescue mission full of adventure and mishaps – trying to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done.

Utilizing music to further the film’s narrative, the Trolls soundtrack is produced by Justin Timberlake and features five original songs – including songs by Justin Timberlake and Gwen Stefani – in addition to a number of classic hits from the 60’s – 80’s.
