A “Navy SEAL seeks revenge after pregnant wife is murdered and uncovers international conspiracy” description could land a movie into been there, seen that territory quickly, but if you’re second guessing the Stefano Sollima directed Tom Clancy’s WITHOUT REMORSE, and are an action fan, I highly suggest you reconsider!
I don’t know about you, but I’m really impressed and excited to see Michael B. Jordan solidifying his place in the world of action stars. I mean, watch this movie, and get to approximately the 41-minute marker and tell me he isn’t killing (pun intended) the “F*** around and find out,” action hero portrayal.
Here’s the official film synopsis: An elite Navy SEAL uncovers an international conspiracy while seeking justice for the murder of his pregnant wife in Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, the explosive origin story of action hero John Clark – one of the most popular characters in author Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan universe. When a squad of Russian soldiers kills his family in retaliation for his role in a top-secret op, Sr. Chief John Kelly (Michael B. Jordan) pursues the assassins at all costs. Joining forces with a fellow SEAL (Jodie Turner-Smith) and a shadowy CIA agent (Jamie Bell), Kelly’s mission unwittingly exposes a covert plot that threatens to engulf the U.S. and Russia in an all-out war. Torn between personal honor and loyalty to his country, Kelly must fight his enemies without remorse if he hopes to avert disaster and reveal the powerful figures behind the conspiracy.
Now being honest, I must say there are a few inconvenient transitions that leave some of the “hows and whys” a bit unexplained, but I really enjoyed the fight scenes, the story is entertaining, and the acting is solid. And I loved seeing Turner-Smith in an action-driven romp, and she’s quite the bad-ass herself albeit she didn’t really get to show out.
And did I mention Michael B. kills it in this role?
The AAFCA family did a roundtable with him recently, but your girl…sniff…had a scheduling…sniff, sniff…CONFLICT!!!! 😦
Yes, I’m heartbroken. No, I’m still not over it! However, I am graciously sharing the video with the fam below and, like my review of the action film “Nobody,” strongly recommending you add this one to the must watch queue.
I rate the film 3.5 out of 5 on the MMTrometer.
