Happy New Year AND decade MMT Fam! What a blessing it is to make it to 2020 and be able to share my thoughts with you. Once more, I’m glad to provide a list of award ceremonies with dates, times and channels for your convenience. All information is effective as of January 2nd and will be updated as needed. So, take notes and prepare yourselves as follows:
- Golden Globe Awards– serving as the official kickoff to awards season, the 77th annual show airs this Sunday, January 5th at 8pm EST on NBC. Comedy star Ricky Gervais will serve as host for a record-breaking fifth time.
- Trumpet Awards – The 28th annual Trumpet Awards, which honors African American achievement and excellence, will air on January 12, 2020 at 9pm EST on Bounce TV (check local listings for channel). Emmy award-winning comedian, actress and writer Wanda Sykes will host.
- Screen Actors Guild Awards– the 26th annual SAG awards will air live Sunday, January 19th on both TBS and TNT at 8pm EST. The ceremony host has yet to be announced. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to multi award-winning actor, director, producer, activist and philanthropist Robert De Niro by Academy award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
- Grammy Awards – the 62nd annual ceremony will air Sunday, January 26th at 8pm EST on CBS. 15 time Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter/producer, author and actress Alicia Keys will host. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are Chicago, Roberta Flack, Isaac Hayes, Iggy Pop, John Prine, Public Enemy and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Four-time Grammy-winning band Aerosmith is being honored in a ceremony two days prior as the MusicCares Person of The Year.
- Academy Awards (Oscars) – the 92nd annual Oscars will air Sunday, February 9th at 8:00pm EST on ABC. Continuing with last year’s unexpected trend, no traditional host is expected (not officially announced).
- NAACP Image Awards – the 51st annual ceremony will air live – for the first time on the BET network – on Saturday, February 22 at 8pm EST. Hosting duties have yet to be announced.
- iHeartRadio Music Awards – the 2020 iHeartRadio Music awards will air live on Sunday, March 29 on Fox at 8pm EST.
- Billboard Music Awards – the ceremony is airing Wednesday, April 29 at 8pm EST on NBC, with a delayed West Coast telecast at 8 PM PT. Host(s) have not yet been announced (check local listings for updates).
- BET Awards – the ceremony will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 28 at 8pm EST. Nominees will be announced in May 2020.
