A Quick Take on Snow White and The Huntsman

I will admit it, I was hyped to see the new film Snow White and the Huntsman, opening nationwide today Friday June 1st.  Emphasis on the words Snow White.  So I wish someone would explain why I felt I was watching Bella and the Huntsman instead!  Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed the Twilight saga movies.  I just believe Kristen Stewart was the wrong choice for the role of Snow White and that she didn’t offer anything we haven’t already seen in those past works.

That being said…was the film entertaining? Mostly.  It was also visually stunning and a pretty clever take on the Snow White fairy-tale, with more emphasis on the Huntsman character.  It is also really dark, so it’s not the best choice for families or kids younger than 13 yrs.  My fave things about the film?  Oscar winner Charlize Theron gives a wicked performance, pun intended, as Queen Ravenna.  Because I thought the Queen’s back story needed a bit more explaining, not just the quick flashback sequence the audience was given, I couldn’t completely follow what made her so darn evil.  Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers) also gives an entertaining performance as Eric the huntsman.  The battle scenes are enjoyable, and there is a good amount of dead on humor, so guys taking out the young female demographic, that’s being courted with this film, should also get some satisfaction from it.  And I loved when the dwarfs appeared, yes I’m a big kid and I don’t apologize for it!

I do have a couple of other gripes, but I’m not one for spoilers so I will leave it there for now.  I will comment or elaborate though for anyone else who goes to see and shares thoughts or questions below.

Until next thought family, Thomasena
