Eddie Murphy Set To Host Oscars 2012

What can I say, for as long as I can remember I’ve been an award show junkie.  The red carpet interviews, gorgeous gowns, the glitz and glamour of it all.  I am also a huge Eddie Murphy fan, from the days of Saturday Night Live (SNL), or when I had to sneak and watch Delirious on VHS (okay I am surely dating myself with that one), through to the time when me and my highschool classmate Saskia went to see Raw at the old Sam Eric Theater after an Art Museum visit.  Where my old school Philadelphians who can appreciate that reference?  On up to his most recent movie roles; I mean did he or did he not kill that Jimmy Early role in Dreamgirls?  So I am thrilled with the announcement that Eddie Murphy has agreed to host next year’s Academy Award ceremony, scheduled to air Sunday February 26th, 2012.

I am a bit surprised that Eddie was offered the gig considering his infamous early departure from the ceremony.  You remember back in 2007, when he loss the Best Supporting Actor statue and failed to perform with fellow Dreamgirls cast members during a musical medley. Nice to see the Academy isn’t holding a grudge :).

So in honor of Mr. Murphy’s upcoming hosting duties, I put together my own little memory lane of  fave Murphy performances.  Check out the videos below.
