Happy Monday MMT Fam! Okay, my subscribers know me. Y’all know I can’t handle creepy horror like “Paranormal Activity” (I’ve never seen a one and told the great Jason Blum as much a few years back), and even though some movies intrigue the heck out of me – “Sinister” and “Hereditary” to name a couple – I haven’t dared to watch them. But I can get behind a good Michael Meyers stalk, “Halloween” (1978) is my favorite horror film, and the other old school stalkers/killers like Freddy, Jason and Leatherface didn’t petrify me…well I can’t front the first “A Nightmare on Elm Street” was a terrifying premise, I mean you could fall asleep and still be murdered!
But the 1992 cult classic “Candyman” has always had a special place in my heart, and apparently my head because teen Thomasena would play around and try to make my younger sister say his name in the mirror for kicks! Single, living by myself with two cats, adult Thomasena won’t even play those kinds of games, LOL.
The social messaging intertwined with the creepy thrill made the film a fave watch, and Tony Todd elevated the entire experience with his haunting performance and voice.
So, when it was announced years back that the “spiritual” sequel to the original film was coming to the screen, I was excited – and equally disappointed when the pandemic kept pushing back the release date.
But here it is MMT Fam! Finally, CANDYMAN is being released this Friday, August 27 – an early birthday present as I celebrate on August 28. And guess what? Several lucky subscribers, willing to screen in King of Prussia tomorrow night, get to celebrate with me as well.
