Hey MMT Philly Fam! Here’s a great event happening in the area on Friday, June 26 (and make sure to check out our new event calendar – on the right side of page, desktop view).
CineSPEAK: alternative cinema is proud to present the Philadelphia première of SHAKE THE DUST, the highly anticipated documentary from executive producer Nasir “Nas” Jones. This incredible film takes us around the globe to Yemen, Uganda, Colombia, and Cambodia exploring the interconnectedness of hip hop across cultures. The screening will be preceded by a community celebration of hip hop as a social force for change showcasing Philly-based representation from the Four Pillars of Hip Hop: Breakdancers, DJs, Graffiti Artists, and MCs.
CONFIRMED PERFORMERS/APPEARANCES: DJs: Skeme Richards (Hot Peas n Butta) + lil’dave (illvibe collective) Emcees: Project HOME’s Inner Power Records (North Philly Youth Collective) Graffiti: Philly’s Own – Darryl “Cornbread the Legend” McCray (Father of Graffiti) Breakdancers: Hip Hop Fundamentals.
The event will take place from 6 – 11PM at The Glass Factory, 1517 N Bailey St, Philadelphia, PA 19121. Doors will open at 6PM and from 6-7:30PM there will be the Celebration of the Four Pillars w/ special guest Cornbread the Legend (Father of Graffiti). “Shake the Dust” will screen at 9PM and at 11PM there will be a Post-Screening Mixer w/DJs lil’dave + Skeme Richards. Youth 18 and Under get free admission. Student admission is $8 (with ID) and general admission is $8 in advanced/$10 at the door (advance ticket sales end at 6am on 6/26).
