MMT Chat with Sydney Park star of THERE’S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE out today on Netflix

In the new film THERE’S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE a slasher in small town Nebraska is killing off high school students, who they believe are hiding immoral secrets, while donning masks resembling their faces. High schooler Makani Young (Sydney Park), who’s moved from Hawaii with her chronically ill grandmother and is keeping something hidden from her past, is part of a group of teens who’s targeted by the killer.

Murder, teen angst and partying, and some hilarity ensues – very reminiscent of the “Scream” franchise in those respects – until Makani is forced to confront the killer and save herself and others in harm’s way.

It’s a very connect the dots story, with a modern and diverse style and casting. Will you guess the killer before the end? If you’re a horror lover, or just astute like that, most likely but there are some fun moments to enjoy along the way.

Unfortunately, unlike the aforementioned franchise, it’s not as clever in its execution – though the performances are good – and what could have been a fantastic, refreshed take on the slasher genre turns out to be just satisfactory fare.

Is it great? No, but it’s a standard popcorn thriller and good enough for a Halloween romp or slasher movie night. I also enjoyed yelling at my screen, e.g. “Why are you sleeping so hard!,” while viewing. I rate it 3 out of 5 on the MMTrometer.

In related news, I had a chance to speak briefly with lead actress Sydney Park about the film, its casting and how prepared she is for any “intrusions.” Check out the video below (pardon the initial audio hiccups) and let me know your thoughts on it and the film in the comments.

THERE’S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE premiered today and is streaming now on Netflix.

Until next thought, Thomasena
