If you follow movie news, unless you live under a rock, you know there were several major reveals yesterday in Chicago at the Star Wars Celebration. First off, the teaser trailer dropped and the title of the final film in the nine movie Skywalker arc was revealed as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. And us Star Wars lovers rightfully lost our collective mind!
After seeing the teaser, I am most excited about the return of Billy Dee Williams to the franchise, reprising his role as Lando Calrissian. And due to the nature of movie magic, and some unused footage from The Force Awakens, we get to see how Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia story continues in this film.
And, oh my goodness, that sinister laughter at the end means Emperor Palpatine is back!!!!! But how? Didn’t Vader throw his tail into the abyss? Anyways, original Palpatine actor Ian McDiarmid also showed at the Chicago celebration confirming his return to the saga.
I can’t wait until those production notes drop, I’ll be sure to update you as soon as they do! In the meantime, check out the below teaser trailer and a portion of the panel presentation from Chicago – hosted by Stephen Colbert with director JJ Abrams, Lucasfilm, Ltd. President Kathleen Kennedy and stars Anthony Daniels (C3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca) and newcomer to the franchise Naomi Ackie (Jannah).
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will open in theaters nationwide on December 20.
Until next thought, Thomasena
